Catch your Rainbow everyday in Summer!

It is easier to consume a wide variety of fruits and vegetables in summer because produce production is at its peak during this time as you can see in our local farmers’ market. Start utilizing more fresh produce in your meal planning (like creating a rainbow colored salad) can save you time in kitchen and keep you cool in summer. Remember, the recommended intake for fruits and vegetables are 5-9 servings with different colors a day!

-Remember to cover half of your plate with veggies in each meal, and eat 2 to 3 fresh fruits a day!

-use healthy cooking method such as boil, steam, grill, and bake, to prepare your vegetable dishes.

-Use healthy cooking oil to prepare yours dishes, such as canola and olive oil.

-The produce that is great for barbequing includes onions, bell peppers, zucchini, carrots, eggplant, asparagus, cucumbers, mushrooms, and pineapples.

-Try to start your meal with low calories, broth –based soup, such as tomato and cucumber soup, it will fill your stomach and make you eat less in the meal.

-for desserts, replace high calories desserts with fresh fruits or iced fruit smoothies with fresh fruits and reduced fat yogurt.
